When it comes to styling an outfit, sometimes the best ensembles focus on one key piece — whether it’s something as small as a pair or earrings, or as bold as a statement necklace. But often when planning an outfit, the more functional pieces of jewellery like a watch, get overlooked. This is a shame, as a watch is a classic piece of jewellery that can go with anything, and can be styled in many unexpected ways to create a unique look.
With the holidays just around the corner, I have teamed up with Invaluable to guide you in finding the most stylish watches at auction prices. For your style inspiration, I have created three unique outfits with watches for both men and women.
Women’s Watch Style Guide
When it comes to styling outfits with a gold watch, mixing your golds is the epitome of chic. I love the look of a gold watch paired with a chunky rose gold bracelet, and the feminine combo pairs well with a statement coat, like this Carven Leopard Coat.
Mixing Patterns & Textures
For a twist on a classic gold watch, wear it alone on one wrist, and pair it with mix and matched jewellery like a spiky bracelet or faux calf hair leopard cuff on the other wrist. Just make sure to keep all pieces in the same gold family for a cohesive look.
For an understated yet chic look, pair a wide band gold watch with a bold gold bangle, and/or two thin gold bracelets. You can pair this particular watch with gold bracelets in the same yellow-gold family, or with rose golds. This look can be worn with bolder outfits, or with casual ensembles for a more put-together look.
Men’s Watch Style Guide
Matching Watch & Belt
Sometimes less is more, and the simplest looks are the best looks. Gentlemen can pair their watch with their belt for a subtly coordinated look. For extra style points, pair the pieces with a polka dot chambray button down shirt.
Matching Watch & Elbow Patches
My favourite men’s look would have to be a simple tee with contrasting elbow patches. So men, why not match your timepiece to your elbow patches? Pair this sleek stainless steel chronograph watch with a simple but stylish sweater with contrasting elbow patches, and complete the look with matching chocolate faux leather oxfords.
Gold Watch & Contrasting Driving Gloves
Mix two classics: a gold watch and black pleather driving gloves, and you can’t go wrong, gentlemen! This pairing can be worn with a dressy wool peacoat, or a classic black pleather jacket, for an edgier look. I love this ensemble because it’s edgy yet high fashion, (and hey, it conjures up images of Ryan Gosling in Drive!)
For extra style points, coordinate this look by matching your watch face to the colour of your driving gloves, for a bold contrast (like this combo of the mens gold watch with a black face with black pleather driving gloves).
