7 Wardrobe Essentials for Women
1. Bright Peacoat
As someone with a lot of neutral coloured pieces in my wardrobe, a bright peacoat is my favourite topper to add a pop of colour, and make an outfit feel put together. Peacoats can be dressed up with tights and ankle booties, or dressed down with skinnies and calf-length boots or flats.
2. Striped Shirt
Black-and-white striped shirts are my favourite item to reach for in my wardrobe, because they are so versatile. No matter what they’re paired with, they always feel chic, preppy, and playful. They can be paired with dark wash jeans or bright skinnies for a preppy look, or tucked under a faux leather skater skirt for a more edgy feel.
3. Little Black Dress
It goes without saying that every woman should have a LBD (Little Black Dress) in her wardrobe. Invest in a piece that is classic with a modest neckline, but a form-fitting silhouette—which can be worn for multiple occasions (work, events, weddings, dates)—depending on what accessories and shoes you pair it with. Pro Tip: take it to a tailor to make sure it fits your unique shape, and the hemline can be adjusted to your measurements.
4. White Blazer
A white blazer in a integral part of my wardrobe, as it’s blank canvas for my day-to-day uniform: it pairs well with everything from slouchy tanks, leopard print tops, and over black dresses. Many of my favourite wardrobe combos are monochromatic black-and-white, so a white blazer is an essential part of my wardrobe. I favour hip-length, tuxedo-style blazers, and single or two-button blazers, and leave them unbuttoned for an easy, cool vibe.
5. Pleather Skater Skirt
Skater skirts are universally flattering, and black pleather skater skirts are a surprisingly versatile item to own. They are playful yet edgy, and can be worn with a white plain tee, a preppy patterned top, or a blouse for work.
6. Black Skinnies
Black skinnies (especially jeggings) are my wardrobing go-to, and with good reason: they go with everything (even with black tops for a chic, black-on-black ensemble). They can be formal when paired with heels and a blazer, or casual when worn with a striped tee and flats (my favourite combo!)
7. Classic Trench
When talking wardrobe staples, a classic, double-breasted camel-coloured trench coat is a
must-have. It is a perfect cool-weather layering item, especially when paired with a chambray button-down and skinnies during the day, or over a dress at night. It’s super versatile, and has multiple personalities: it can be left undone for a laid-back cool look, or done up for a stylish, put together look.
